- •Formed in 1965 under the London Government Act 1963, merging the former municipal boroughs of Richmond, Twickenham, and Barnes with the Hampton and Hampton Wick areas of the old Twickenham Rural District. It is the only London borough with land on both banks of the River Thames, and includes both Richmond Park and Bushy Park, the two largest of London's Royal Parks.
